AVOID LAST-MINUTE POOL OPENING HASSLES THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

AVOID LAST-MINUTE POOL OPENING HASSLES THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

With summer just around the corner, it's time to think about opening your pool. Starting early ensures that your pool is ready and inviting well before the holiday rush, giving you enough time to address any issues like algae blooms or equipment maintenance. Follow this step-by-step guide to open your pool efficiently and effectively. If you notice algae or any other visible issues when uncovering your pool, treat these before continuing with the regular opening procedures.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Purchase the Right Opening Kit: Start by purchasing a pool opening kit suitable for your pool size. Visit our Pool Opening category to find the perfect kit for your needs.

2. Setup Your Sanitizing System: Are you using a Nature2 sanitizing system? If so, gather all necessary components, including your filter, pump, and the Nature2 system.

3. Prepare Your Equipment: Place your filter, pump, and any additional equipment like the Nature2 system on a stable pad near the skimmer.

4. Remove the Winter Cover: Carefully remove the winter cover and properly detach and deflate any winter pillows used to protect your pool during the off-season. Set them out to dry.

5. Store Your Winter Gear: Once dry, fold and store your winter cover and pillows in a safe place where they will not get damaged.

6. Connect Your Equipment: Hook up your filter and pump, making sure that all connections are secure and leak-free.

7. Check Water Levels: Check that the water level is up to the middle of the skimmer to allow proper water flow into the filtration system. Water is pulled into the filtration system by gravity, so keeping your water level high enough to reach the midline of the skimmer is essential to keep your water circulating. If needed, add more water to your pool using a garden hose.

8. Remove Debris: Use a telescoping pole and skimmer net to remove leaves and other debris from the pool.

9. Test the Water: Use Quick 5 or Quick 7 test strips to check water chemistry. For a more detailed analysis, take a sample of your pool water to your local Great Escape store for a free digital water test.

10. Balance Your Water: Adjust the water's alkalinity first, followed by the pH level, and then add the appropriate amount of shock for the size of your pool. This sequence ensures the best results for clean and clear water.

11. Add Stabilizer and Sanitizers: After adding shock, wait 24 hours before adding chlorine stabilizer. After 48 hours, you can start using chlorine tablets unless you have a Nature2 system, in which case, install the cartridge and V-Pack according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Don’t wait until Memorial Day weekend to start prepping your pool! Begin now to ensure your pool is swim-ready, allowing you to relax and enjoy the holiday with peace of mind. Early preparation not only gives you a head start but also prevents the stress of last-minute maintenance.
