Key Takeaways:
1. Replacing a widemouth skimmer ensures your pool's filtration system works efficiently, keeping your water clear and debris-free.
2. Installing a new skimmer requires careful handling of the gaskets and screws to ensure a watertight seal.
3. Using the proper tools and techniques makes this replacement process smooth and safe, preventing any damage to your pool wall or liner.
Step-by-Step Process:
1. Drain the Water: Lower the water level below the skimmer faceplate to avoid water spillage during replacement.
2. Remove the Old Skimmer: Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws on the faceplate. Support the backside of the skimmer bucket to prevent it from falling when the last screws are removed. Detach the old faceplate and skimmer bucket, then carefully remove the old butterfly gasket.
3. Install the Skimmer Extension: Attach the widemouth skimmer extension to the body of the skimmer using 4 screws on the lip and 4 screws on the throat. Place the square gasket between the extension and skimmer body, and firmly tighten the screws by hand.
4. Install the New Gaskets: Open both sides of the new butterfly gaskets and place one side inside the pool wall and the other side outside.
5. Complete the Skimmer Installation: Line up the holes on the bucket, gaskets, and faceplate. Insert and tighten the screws with your Phillips screwdriver to secure the skimmer.
